Happy Sunday to you all 🤗 Today take a moment Happy Sunday to you all 🤗 Today take a moment to relax and have a look at our Royal Society of Portrait Painters exhibition exclusively available online on the @mallgalleries website via the link in bio! In the online exhibition you find many unique creations, including today's chosen portrait, The Wheat Thief, by @jackfreemanart. "This painting is of Patricia standing on the cliffs at Covehithe in Suffolk, having collected wheat and weeds for decorations in her house. Working from photographs and a small sketch, I wanted to capture the early evening light over the sea and the grin on her face as she stood with her handful of treasured table decorations" are the words of the artist behind the creation of this work.
Today’s post is dedicated to @suzannebaxtergibbs Today’s post is dedicated to @suzannebaxtergibbs's Facing it. The portrait tells the story of the Sally, the sister of the artist, during her battle with cancer. “My previous success with using raw, personal, and tactile resources, once again has enabled me to connect with and process loss and devastation. I decided to use this technique in my portrait, ‘Facing It’. This painting is a portrait of my sister, Sally, undergoing treatment for cancer, when she lost her crowning glory 2 months ago. I collected, combed and applied Sally’s hair to the powerful, moving and emotive piece (creating the textured wig, beside her). It shows Sally reflected in the mirror, staring at the viewer. Her gaze is piercing, powerful and direct. As the cancer moves throughout her body, she is facing it, its consequences, symptoms, treatment and its side effects. This potentially devastating disease has moved on to affect one in two of us and we are compelled to stop and face this. It is a hauntingly but beautiful, moving portrait of vibrant colours. Sally’s baldness is juxtaposed with decoration, a colourful scarf, and makeup, accentuating her eyes, where her eyebrows and eyelashes once were. Her wig made up of the hair she has lost, now sits to the side of her, framed by a canvas of vibrancy, positivity and abstraction. The wig is there to hide her baldness, hide the cancer, but why? To save causing public discomfort. Baldness on a woman is like writing Cancer on your forehead. It's looking back at you. The clock’s arms are out of view, symbolic of the abstraction of time. Life throws us all challenges, some greater than others and it is how we respond to and move on from them that matters.” are the unique words of the artist describing her work. #FemaleArtistOfTheDay 🌸 “This portrait was pa #FemaleArtistOfTheDay 🌸 “This portrait was painted at a difficult, crucial moment in life. It has drama, a fear of change, which is emphasized by the contrast and the colour of this work” is what Russian artist @ksenya_istomina says about her self-portrait, that will be on display in our Royal Society of Portrait Painters. #FridayFeelings can be found in @delacybrown‘s p #FridayFeelings can be found in @delacybrown‘s portrait of his father, entitled My Father, a Life of Work. “This is more than a portrait of a man, but of his life, encapsulated in the room where he has spent so much of his career as a local high street solicitor. His threadbare chair, the crowded mantelpiece, the paraphernalia on his desk all tell part of the story of my father, his attitude to work and to life, and his gradual acquiescence that his work has become the inevitable narrative of his existence. Work consumes him as the piles of papers and files rise up around him in an insurmountable collective of endless legal tasks. It is a portrait of a nostalgic time past, pre-computers and open-plan office spaces, of sophisticated case management and the internet. It is a time which, through my father, lives on” are the words of the artist on his painting. Happy Mother’s Day! 💖 🖼Ruth, 37 Weeks is o Happy Mother’s Day! 💖 🖼Ruth, 37 Weeks is one of @belindacrozier_artist‘s series of portraits of Ruth, a friend of the artist, during her pregnancy. The artist was interested in the changes and evolution of the women’s body throughout the pregnancy, and in how the sitter holds that evolution while carrying a baby inside them. The work will be exhibited in our the Royal Society of Portrait Painters exhibition along with the final portrait of Ruth’s pregnancy at 24 weeks. Despite the sad news yesterday regarding the Annua Despite the sad news yesterday regarding the Annual Exhibition we would like to say Happy International Day of Happiness! 😊 We hope to steal you a smile with @darrenbutcherart's Expressions Two, which will be one of the works in the Royal Society of Portrait Painters exhibition, now available to browse & buy exclusively online The artist created this painting by asking anyone on social media to send in photographs of themselves with the chance to be in this painting. After receiving many photographs of people making silly faces, the artist was inspired for this unique creation.

@melissa.scottmiller 'Suzanna Hamilton learning he @melissa.scottmiller 'Suzanna Hamilton learning her lines in Myddelton square’ "Suzanna is an actress and a great-granddaughter of William Orpen. She has played many very successful roles in films and television. Suzanna is a close friend and when we met to do the portrait in Myddelton Square, she had performed in a nearby theatre and had lines she needed to learn. We discussed the part she was playing whilst I painted her. We both support each other in the rocky paths of our professions, sharing our ups and downs, and Suzanna is particularly sympathetic to painters because of her family connection to her great grandfather, through the many stories she has been told." John Wonnacott RP The Actor Oliver Ford Davies "I John Wonnacott RP The Actor Oliver Ford Davies "I first met Oliver Ford Davies when he was playing Lear at @almeida_theatre in 2004. He so caught my imagination that I went six times. A mutual friend, Lizzy McInnerny, who was playing a terrifying Regan to his tragic King introduced me to Oliver and he agreed to sit for me. Oliver sat on a raised dais in front of a screen I had covered with performance photographs chosen from scenes like the double image of Lear with blinded Gloucester. The painting would have to be ¾ length because besides Oliver’s richly expressive face and sonorous voice he acted with his whole body and particularly with his hands which seemed to have a life of their own and play an important part in my image. Oliver has been acting for as long as I’ve been painting. We talked theatre and exhibitions through the sittings, mostly of Lear and Rembrandt."

@frances_bell_paintings Mauro Mauro was a model w @frances_bell_paintings Mauro Mauro was a model who became popular in Florence. A charismatic Columbian who could hold a heroic pose for legendary time, without complaint or much movement. When the theatrical theme emerged for this show this sitter sprang right into my mind, as I remember him exuding a great sense of showmanship. Part of The Show Goes On - opening @mallgalleries next week.
