We spoke to Sam Dalby about this portrait of his, which will be featuring alongside some of his other works in this year's annual exhibition. Sam said of this piece: 'The portrait is of my mother, Lesley, holding her grandson Daniel during their first meeting. It was painted from a photograph, as she died in 2015, and Daniel is now as tall as she was then.My mother was kind, hard working, and utterly devoted to children. I regret that I didn't draw or paint her during her life, but she was too modest, and would only have done it to humour me.She is sorely missed, and this is my small tribute in her memory.'
