An exhibition titled; 'Traces' featuring RP @davidhcobley and Ceramicist Janene Waudby is NOW OPEN!Where?@whitechalkgallery in Devizes. When? On NOW - 5th October 2024Open Tues - Sat, 10am - 5pmDavid has been drawing and painting since early childhood. He trained at Northampton and Liverpool Schools of Art before spending almost 10 years studying and working in Japan.In 1989 he was shortlisted for the BP Portrait Award and elected a member of the Royal Society of Portrait Painters in 1997, serving as its Honorary Secretary for four years. His portrait of Ken Dodd OBE was purchased by the National Portrait Gallery in 2005, and in 2010 he was commissioned to paint the Nobel Prize-winning scientist Sir Martin Evans for the Gallery’s permanent collection. In 2019 the BBC asked him to paint Sir David Attenborough as a celebration of his life in broadcasting.He has had solo shows of his work in London and Bath, and works from a studio in Devizes. RP @markroscoeart has shared the journey for his recent commission and unveiling...!"Here is one of my most recent portrait commissions and a few photographs of the final unveiling and surroundings. When the client first made contact with me we immediately hit it off and we bonded over our shared experiences. We were the same age, we both spent time living in Chelsea, and we both have three children. Unlike me he is handsome, and sophisticated, has impeccable style, and taste, and is rich, but nobody is perfect. For various reasons, we decided to stage the painting in a private members club in Mayfair and I'm glad we did as I think it worked out really well. The colors and shapes of the canopy and the buildings in the background create a lively dynamic composition that returns your eye to the face and hands.
