A portrait sometimes has to be created from reference photographs because it is not always possible to arrange sittings. These portraits are not mere copies but something deeper and more complex. For this you need an artist with special skills so finding the right artist is important.
We recommend that you use our consultants who will approach a range of appropriate artists within your budget and assemble a portfolio for you to choose from.
We give face to face consultations to help you, or consultations by email, without obligation.
If you are thinking of commissioning a portrait from reference photographs the first stage would be to identify the main photograph on which to base the work. Gathering the rest of the material can happen slightly later.
Once our consultant has this image and understands what sort of portrait you would like and how big you would like it, they will do the research and circulate it to appropriate artists. Their responses are then collated and put together with images to make a portfolio of options
Painting a portrait from photographs is a special skill so choosing the right artist is essential.
Once you have found the artist that suits you, you then talk the commission over before agreeing the exact nature of you commission and the artist starting work. Different artists work in different ways. To find out more contact our consultant for an informal discussion.
