Find a portrait painter near you
Portrait artists’ studios are located throughout the country, and while it’s possible that your ideal artist lives near you, proximity shouldn’t drive your choice. It is far better to commission the best artist possible than to choose someone because of geographical ease.
This doesn’t mean that you’ll need to travel to the artist. Almost all professional portrait painters expect to travel to their clients, whether within the UK or abroad. The sitter’s natural environment often informs the painting, and sitters feel more relaxed in a familiar setting. It is a rare exception when the artist chooses to prioritise the stable lighting conditions of their own studio.
Normally, artists will only charge their client for the actual journey cost and do not charge for their travel time. It’s worth bearing in mind that, if the artist has traveled a long way, they might also need accommodation.
