A painting of a dentist by William Bowyer RA has been kindly gifted to the People’s Portraits Collection by the late artist’s family. The portrait, painted in the 1970’s, was unveiled at a reception at Girton College, Cambridge, by Vera and Jason Bowyer, William’s wife and son. A prolific painter of landscapes and portraits, William was a long-standing and distinguished member of the Royal Society of Portrait Painters.
Art critic Laura Cumming, guest speaker at the reception, commented on the unique nature of the People’s Portraits collection being set outwith the museum environment in an institution of learning and work.
