Painting the Head
From Fayum Mummy Portraits painted over 2,000 years ago to the recent Giacometti and Cezanne exhibitions, depicting what is perhaps most familiar to us – the human face – has challenged artists for centuries. Focussing on the head, this course will offer students the chance to make sustained portrait paintings over two and three day poses. Emphasis will be placed on colour mixing, and understanding how the colours and tones of the model relate to their surroundings. One-to-one teaching as well as group discussions will take place. Suitable for all levels, from the beginner to the contemporary artist looking to deepen their practice.
